Bug and Insect Adventures
At our friendly and inclusive Stay and Play group, we love designing sessions that spark curiosity, encourage development, and welcome children of all abilities. Our recent bug and insect themed session was an exciting journey into the mini-beast world — packed with sensory play and fine motor fun.
Ladybug-Themed Rice Play
Our bright and bold ladybug rice tray was a feast for the senses. Using red and black dyed rice, children explored scooping, pouring, and running their hands through the colourful textures. Sensory play like this supports tactile development, fine motor skills, and hand-eye coordination. This type of play is fantastic for emotional regulation, focus, and building confidence in a safe, stimulating environment.
Hide and Seek Bugs in Rice
Children loved our bug hide-and-seek sensory tray, where little insects were hidden amongst colourful rice. This engaging activity encouraged problem-solving, observation skills, and pincer grip development as children searched for the hidden creatures. Activities like these promote concentration, language skills, and social interaction — all key areas we nurture in our inclusive sessions.
Butterfly Pasta Play
Our butterfly pasta play tray brought creativity and sensory exploration together. Using colourful bowtie pasta, children could scoop, sort, and create butterfly patterns, supporting fine motor control, bilateral coordination, and imaginative play. Sensory-rich experiences encourage manipulative strength and cognitive development while having fun.
